Christmas gifts for dental patients: ideas for your practice

Floss Card with gold hot foil finish

December is busy in the practice: check-ups before the new year, hygiene appointments, children on school holidays. That is exactly when a small Christmas gift for dental patients is a lovely gesture. It says thank you for the trust placed in you over the year and, quite incidentally, reminds patients of their next appointment. To make sure it does not disappear into a drawer, it should above all be one thing: useful and fitting for the practice.

What makes a good Christmas gift from a dental practice

A Christmas gift for patients does not have to be big. It works when three things come together:

  • It suits the sender. A gift centred on dental care is credible coming from a dental practice. Chocolates from a dental practice tend to raise a smile instead.
  • It gets used. Whatever is picked up in everyday life stays in mind – together with the name of your practice.
  • It is easy to hand out. At reception, after treatment or in an envelope: a flat gift can be handed over or posted without any fuss.

Christmas gift ideas for your patients

The floss card in a festive design

A floss business card is as flat as a normal business card, contains around 10 metres of waxed floss and can be printed edge to edge on the front and back. For Christmas you design it once in a festive look: practice logo, a wintry motif, a short greeting. With a gold or silver hot foil finish the card gets a festive shine.

Card inside a greeting card

It gets even more personal with a greeting card that holds the Floss Card. The greeting card has room for a Christmas message from the whole team, while the Floss Card keeps your logo and contact details. You can add the greeting card as an upgrade directly in the card designer.

A greeting for children and families

For family practices and orthodontics, a separate design for the youngest patients is worthwhile: a friendly motif, a line such as “Merry Christmas from your practice team” and a small brushing tip on the back. With larger runs, fruity flavours such as strawberry are available alongside mint.

A thank-you to referrers and partners

Christmas is also the time to say thank you to laboratories, referring practitioners and cooperation partners. A Floss Card in a greeting card is a small, quality present that goes well with a personal letter.

How to design the Christmas card

  1. The logo stays the anchor. The festive design can be wintry, but your practice logo should still be clearly recognisable.
  2. A back with a purpose. A QR code for online appointment booking with the line “Start the new year with a smile – book your next appointment here” connects the greeting with recall.
  3. One greeting, not three. A short sentence is stronger than a long text. For example: “Happy holidays and a bright new year – from the team at …”.
  4. Use finishing sparingly. Gold on a dark background or silver on wintry blue: a finish on the lettering or a star is quite enough.

Tip: Design the back so that it still fits in January and February. Then you can simply keep handing out any leftover cards after the holidays.

How many cards do you need?

A simple calculation helps: count how many patients have an appointment in the weeks before Christmas, and add the cards for referrers, partners and the team. If you also use the cards as a recall greeting after the holidays, plan more generously. The minimum order is 500 cards, and larger runs get cheaper per card.

Order in good time

So that the cards are in the practice before the first December appointments, you should allow for production time. You can see the current production time in the card designer. For Christmas that means: ideally design and order in October or early November. If you also want to send the cards out with a letter, allow a few more days for enclosing and posting.

Whether and to what extent gifts to patients are permitted depends on the rules in your country and on the individual case. If in doubt, your chamber or professional association can help.
